Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors awarded sales accolade

Congratulations to the sales team at the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) who have won the Association of Professional Sales (APS) prestigious Investor in Sales award.

RICS have built their reputation on quality assurance and ethics and now, in partnership with the APS, are making that statement clear in the way they sell their services to members and non-members of the profession.

RICS accredit more than 130,000 qualified and trainee professionals who work across the ‘built environment’ and any individual or firm registered with them is subject to their quality assurance. The Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors are proud of their reputation and guard it fiercely, so clients who work with their registered professionals can have confidence in the quality and ethics of the services they receive.

The Investor in Sales award is given by the APS when more than 50% of a sales team passes our professional registration assessment. So far, the sales team at RICS have achieved an impressive pass rate of almost 90%.

During the test, each candidate is asked 40 questions about ethical, selling dilemmas. The questions relate to the anti-bribery act and common work-based scenarios that a seller might have faced in the past or could do in their future sales career.

In essence the test is assessing a candidate’s ability to do the right thing by their customers and act in a consistent and ethical manner. The questions have been created in partnership with university academics and the founding, corporate members of the APS to ensure relevance and rigour. This is not a ‘tick box’ compliance exercise; candidates need to score at least 65% to pass.

“I think nowadays buyers want to know that they are dealing with, not only ethical companies, but with ethical individuals and that’s what the Association of Professional Sales gives its members.

 “I would absolutely recommend to any organisation to follow the route of joining the APS because it gives an assurance to the outside world that you are following an ethical code and I think that’s very important.”

Passing the APS professional accreditation allows entry on to our public sales register. This a visible way that a customer, or prospective customer, can verify the ethical credentials of each seller.

A pass also allows individuals to put the APS, Registered Sales Professional logo on email footers, presentations, business cards and social media (eg Linkedin).

This is another sign to customers that their organisation is aligned with the ethical values of the professional body for sales. The accreditation is valid for two years and then a candidate must re-take the test to remain current and registered.
