Sales apprenticeships fund sales learning
What are sales apprenticeships?
For employees, sales apprenticeships are a great way to learn and earn at the same time. They will develop the skills, knowledge and ethical behaviour that will lead to a rewarding career in a vital sector of the British economy. No business can survive without selling and for employers the sales apprentices, funded by the apprenticeship levy, offer the chance to boost your sales force with dynamic salespeople who have chosen to work in sales.
Who are apprenticeships for?
Two sales apprenticeships are available, both are business to business qualifications. The first is a level-four, post A-Level qualification for frontline sales executives which takes 18 months to complete; the second is a level-six, degree qualification which takes three years. Both apprenticeships offer a great start for a career in sales. Since sales apprenticeships were approved, new apprentices have taken up jobs across all sectors.
Why are sales apprentices good for business?
Working with sales apprenticeships allows your organisation to embark on a programme of sales learning and performance improvement funded by your levy pot. The learning is longer and more comprehensive and introduces sales professionals into the value of lifelong learning, creating a career path from first job to sales leader.
What is great about sales apprenticeships?
Employers tell us that apprentices have made a real difference to their businesses, adding a dynamic, can-do approach to their sales forces. A focus on professional development has also helped them to keep talented staff and attract more vibrant, young people from diverse backgrounds to their organisations. APS research shows that diverse and inclusive sales teams are good for business, while employing apprentices also encourages social mobility.
How can the APS help? The APS has led the development of sales apprenticeships across the UK. We have worked with employers, training providers and academics and won the backing of the Institute for Apprenticeships and government departments. Together, we agreed the shape, skills and funding for the new qualifications, offering thousands of people the chance to secure fulfilling jobs on funded apprenticeship programmes. The sales apprenticeship programme involves working with APS, Approved Training Organisations (ATOs) who will be able to guide you through the process. The APS is here to support this journey and offers End Point Assessment (EPA) once apprentices complete their courses. All salespeople studying with APS ATOs are given membership of the Association of Professional Sales to support their study.
Speak to the Association of Professional Sales about how to start this process, how to integrate it with the wider sales force across the UK or around the world and the value of continuing professional development to take your apprentices to the next level.
We also suggest speaking to us about managing and coaching apprentices.
